Quasar.
Issue 54, page 6.

Artist: John Heebink
Inker: David Day & Dan Day

Yet another piece of art inspired by Mark Gruenwald's work. After Quasar's many appearances here in MTIO (issues 53-58, 67, 73-74, and 81), Quasar had his own series which ran 60 issues from 1990-1995. Written by Mr. Gruenwald, it had a distinctly old school feel to it- a real sense of connection to the rest of the Marvel Universe.
The two characters in the lower left are Perun and Vostok, two members of the People's Protectorate, a Russian superhero team that I always liked. In the lower left panel below Quasar's "floating head", are, from left to right, Perun and Vostok (again), Cpt. Marvel (now Photon), Ikaris (of the Eternals), Hyperion (of the Squadron Supreme, but not the same Hyperion from MTIO 64-65), and Binary (formerly Ms. Marvel as seen in MTIO 51, and now Warbird). Its a nice group of some of Marvel's semi-obscure powerful heroes.
Yeah, I know the art's not impressive (and its a bad scan- I'll have to redo this one too), but, hey- I paid next to nothing for it on EBay in July of 2003...
