Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers.
Issue 4, page 7.

Artist: Ig Guara
Uninked

Okay, I'm a Lockjaw fan. I loved the first Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers series (let's agree not to discuss the sequel), and was very happy when this page popped up out there on the internet. I picked it up without a moment's hesitation.

So, what do we have here? The bottom panel has the Pet Avengers standing united against (seen in the top two panels) the mad Titan, Thanos. That bottom panel has, clockwise from the upper left: the Falcon's falcon, Redwing; Ka-Zar's sabretooth tiger, Zabu; Lockjaw of the Inhumans; Kitty Pryde's "pet dragon" Lockheed; the Frog Thor; and Speedball's cat, Niels, known here as Hairball. In addition to them and Thanos in the earlier panels, at the far right in the second panel we see the other Pet Avenger, the powerless Ms. Lyon. One other character appears in this page - the dog being thrown aside by Thanos in the top panel is, of all things, Bo Obama, the president's dog. Believe it or not (yes, that's the White House in the background in panel two).

One unusual note for my collection - the page I purchased here is original pencils, and not inked art. Scanning it did some auto-correcting it that darkened it, and sharpening it when I reduced it to web sizes similarly enhanced it, but the original pencils are quite pale. Still darn beautiful, especially that bottom panel, but very faint. No one is credited with inking it in the book - did Ig Guara ink it electronically after scanning it? Was the "inking" part of the coloring process? I confess to having no clue, but if an inked version of this exists then I'd love to find it!

This was purchased at the end of September, 2010, from an online dealer called Comic Art Ink. Completely satisfactory sale, though I confess that I do find their little completely-unrelated-to-anything primitive and awful personal music player on their website to be as pointless and annoying as anything. Still, I recommend them and Ig Guara's art, but turn your sound off before you go visiting!
